I have recently been building some SNOT roads like this in a modular format to make it easy to join together with others for displays. It also has train tracks for trams in the road.
I really love the sloping road idea and will have to use that as I really like the idea of different heights in LEGO towns. A lot are too flat

The idea of the curved road is great, that's why I bought some 1x2 bricks myself.
